In 2010, the school was handed over to the Catholic Diocese of Orlu the initial owners. It was one of the forty five schools that were handed over to the various churches in Imo State. Urban Secondary School, Umuna is now one of the Catholic Mission Schools in Orlu. Presently, the school fields students for Junior School Certificate Examination, Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination which include NECO and WAEC.
For extra curricular activities, the school has one of the best dramatic societies, debating society, cultural troupe, choir, press club, volley ball team etc. As part of the academic curriculum, she organizes excursions, sports activities and cultural festivals.
Urban Secondary School Umuna, Orlu, is manned by competent people who are commited to vision and mission of the school. Indeed, our greatest asset is our staff.
We train actors not reactors, being a mission school; she does not play with spiritual exercise. As a result, she has various pious societies which include, St. Jude, Legion of Mary, St. Anthony, Sacred Heart, Christian Youth Fellowship, Charismatic Renewal, and St. Theresa. We prepare students for first Holy Communion, Confirmation and other Sacraments..
The present site of the school has hosted a lot of institutions. In the early fifties it served as government handicraft centre which turned out artisans and craftsmen in wood and metal works. It also hosted Education Board, Federal College Okigwe and Bishop Shanahan Teachers’ Training College, Orlu.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Church acquired the site from the government and used it to establish Holy Rosary Teachers’ Training College, Umuna, Orlu. The school produced teachers of great repute especially women.
Following the phasing out of teachers training colleges, the school transformed into a State Secondary School.
Urban Secondary School Umuna, Orlu, started officially in 1986 as a Co educational secondary school to serve the needs of inhabitants of Orlu.

Rev. Fr. Chiedozie Ohazuruike who is the current principal of the school is the best for the job. He is a well bred administrator. A school like Urban Secondary School, Umuna, Orlu ought to be administered by someone with an excellent spirit both in mind and in body. It requires a principled and well articulate academician who is fair and firm and who knows that his job is about character moulding. Rev. Fr. Ohazuruike has all it takes to get a school out of the woods. He is also committed to educational practices.
The school has produced top rated academicians, medical personnel, lawyers, bankers, politicians and businessmen.
The school has well-established Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A.). The members are striving hard to make the school environment very conducive for teaching and learning. The good thing is that both students and teachers are positively responding to the speedy growth of Urban. The college is a pride to those who had passed through it and particularly to the people of Umuna Community. As it stands today, Urban is poised to train actors and not reactors.
Every student who passed through the school was trained to be respectful, hardworking and resourceful.
